Understanding Bells, Buzzers, and Strobe Systems
Buzzers are loud and effective at notifying you when an event occurs – perfect for businesses, warehouses, and industrial applications
What’s the Difference Between Buzzers & Bells?
Doorbell Buzzers
Doorbell buzzers like the DH920 by Thomas & Betts are extremely loud, excellent for business, warehouse, or industrial applications. They use a small hammer that strikes the bell to emit a loud ringing sound.
- • 4-inch bell option
- • 2-1/2-inch bell option
- • Enclosed bell available
Fire Alarm Bells
Traditional fire bells or school bells are the type you see in commercial locations or schools to notify of an alarm. These fire alarm bells are very loud and effective at informing users.
- • 80-85 dB output
- • Outdoor rated options
- • 12V DC models available
When Would I Use a Buzzer Instead of a Doorbell?
Door chimes aren’t designed to be “extra” loud. Most have volume control, but even at full volume, they may not be loud enough in noisy environments. Just as you may not want a firebell in your home, a pleasant 8-note Westminster chime may not be loud enough for your workshop.
Buzzers and bells are ideal when:
- ✓ Working in noisy environments
- ✓ Need attention-demanding alerts
- ✓ Standard doorbells go unnoticed
- ✓ Commercial/industrial settings
- ✓ Warehouse applications
- ✓ Workshop environments
