Buying notes
Is this the right fit?
Good fit when
Use this when you need a complete setup with the sensor and receiver included, instead of trying to match separate parts.
Look at another option when
Look at a separate transmitter or receiver when you are only replacing one part of a system that already works.
Range reality
5000 ft is the published open-air range. Real-world range is lower when the signal crosses walls, metal, masonry, vehicles, shelving, or dense trees.
Setup note
Place the sensor where the event happens, then place the receiver where the alert needs to be heard or seen. Test the signal before final mounting.
The SDCPA-4000 Dakota Alert Smart Probe Driveway Alarm tells you when a vehicle enters your driveway, and only when a vehicle enters your driveway. It pairs the buried DCPT-4000 vehicle probe sensor with the SR-4000 Smart Receiver. The receiver chimes inside your home and also connects to your Wi-Fi to send an instant alert to your smartphone, so you know a car or truck has arrived whether you are in the house, out in the shop, or miles away.
A Driveway Alarm That Only Detects Vehicles
Most wireless driveway alarms use motion sensors that react to anything warm and moving: deer, dogs, neighbors out for a walk, even a branch swaying in the sun. On a rural property or a busy street, that adds up to dozens of false alerts until you stop paying attention to them.
The SDCPA-4000 works differently. The DCPT-4000 probe is a magnetometer: it senses the disturbance a large metal object makes in the earth's magnetic field. A car, truck, tractor, ATV, or other large metallic vehicle changes that field enough to trigger an alert. People, deer, dogs, livestock, and other animals do not, because they are not made of metal. The result is an alarm you can trust: when it sounds, a vehicle is coming up your drive.
How the Buried Probe Sensor Works
The probe is buried beside or beneath your driveway, from 3" to 12" deep, and senses moving vehicles up to about 10 feet on either side of the probe. It connects to the transmitter with 50 feet of direct-burial cable, so you can mount the weatherproof transmitter box out of sight on a post, fence, or tree. Because the probe is underground, there is nothing visible for a driver to notice or tamper with.
The transmitter runs on three CR123A lithium batteries (included), which typically last more than a year, and it operates in temperatures from -30°F to 120°F. It sends its signal up to 1 mile (about 5,000 feet) to the receiver. Actual range varies with terrain, trees, and buildings.
SR-4000 Smart Receiver: Alerts on Your Phone Over Wi-Fi
This is what sets the SDCPA-4000 apart from the DCPA-4K-PLUS probe driveway alarm kit. The SR-4000 Smart Receiver plugs into a standard wall outlet and connects to your home's 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Install the free Dakota Alert app on your iPhone or Android phone, and every time a vehicle crosses the probe, the receiver sends an instant push notification that pops up on your phone like a text message.
Instant phone notifications: Know when a car arrives even when you are away from home.
Name your sensors: Rename each sensor in the app, such as "Front Drive" or "Back Gate", so your alert tells you exactly where the vehicle is.
Activity history: The app keeps a time and date stamp for recent activations.
Silent mode: Send phone notifications only, with no chime, when you don't want the receiver sounding at home.
No subscription: There are no monthly fees for app alerts.
Chime, Relays, and 12V Output
The SR-4000 is still a full-featured Dakota Alert receiver. It plays one of 16 selectable melodies with four volume levels, learns up to 16 Dakota Alert 4000 Series sensors, and includes two Form C relay outputs and a 12V DC output. Use them to switch on a strobe light, sound a siren, or signal a gate controller or security panel. Output duration can be set to 1 second, 5 seconds, 15 seconds, or 5 minutes.
