Buying notes

Is this the right fit?

Good fit when
Use this when the existing wired doorbell system works and you are replacing the outside button for fit, finish, lighting, or weather exposure.
Look at another option when
The chime does not ring even with the old button's two wires touched together. That points to the transformer or the chime, not the button. If you want a lighted button, check that the existing chime is the mechanical type most lighted buttons need.
Mounting and fit
This button is listed as concealed mount. Surface-mount buttons sit on top of the trim or siding with the wires through a small hole behind them. Flush or recessed buttons drop into a cutout so the faceplate sits closer to the wall. Compare the mounting style, faceplate size, and screw spacing with the old button so the new one covers the old footprint and lines up with the existing holes.
Setup note
Turn off power to the low-voltage circuit, note which wire went to which terminal on the old button, then move the two wires to the new button's screw terminals and mount it with the included screws.

BC264LC Lee Electric Square Chrome Lighted Doorbell Button

The Lee Electric BC264LC is a small square doorbell button, about 2 inches on a side, in a polished chrome finish with a white lighted button in the center. There are no screw heads on the face. A brass mounting bracket screws to the wall or casing, and the chrome cover snaps over it, so what you see from the porch is a clean mirror-finish square and a glowing button.

It is a plain two-wire replacement for any standard doorbell button on a transformer-powered chime, and the two mounting screws come in the package.

How It Works and How It Mounts

Pressing the button closes the contact between the two screw terminals on the back and completes the low-voltage circuit from your transformer to the chime. The light is a small lamp across those same terminals. Between presses, a trickle of current runs through the lamp and the chime coil, enough to glow the button but not enough to ring the chime. That is why lighted buttons belong on mechanical chimes, the kind with tone bars and a plunger. Most electronic chimes do not like that trickle and may buzz or fail to ring. Lee prints "for all chimes and bells to 16 volts" on the package, which covers the common 16V doorbell transformer.

Concealed Mounting

This is the part that is different from most of our wired doorbell buttons. Instead of two screw holes through the faceplate, the BC264LC uses a two-piece design:

  • Connect your two doorbell wires to the screw terminals on the switch, which sits in the middle of a brass bracket.
  • Screw the bracket to the wall or door casing through its two holes with the included screws. The holes sit at opposite corners of the bracket, so it can go on straight or on the diagonal to suit the old holes.
  • Snap the chrome cover onto the bracket. The cover's folded edge grips the bracket tabs, and nothing shows on the face.

Because the screws are hidden, there is no listed screw spacing for this button. It covers a footprint of roughly 2 inches by 2 inches, which hides the marks left by most single-button plates. If you are matching an existing opening, the push button measurement guide shows how we measure.

Turn off power to the doorbell circuit before you move the wires. If the button does not light or the chime stays silent after the swap, the transformer or the chime is the usual cause, not the button. Our doorbell transformer guide explains how to check.

What Sets the BC264LC Apart

  • Square, not the usual tall rectangle, so it sits well on modern doors and flat casings
  • Mirror-polished chrome that matches chrome or polished nickel door hardware
  • No visible screws thanks to the snap-on cover
  • White lighted button that glows from inside, easy to find at night
  • Rear screw terminals, no crimping or connectors

If you want the same Lee construction in a different look, the BC267LG is a gold-tone lighted button with a name plate, and the BC203 is a two-button brass plate for a shared entrance. For a brushed rather than polished metal look, compare the Craftmade PB5006-BNK.

What's in the Package

  • 1 x BC264LC chrome square cover with white lighted button
  • 1 x brass mounting bracket with the switch and screw terminals attached
  • 2 x wood screws for mounting the bracket
  • Lee instruction sheet

Where the BC264LC Fits

It suits a modern front door with chrome or stainless hardware, a side or garage entry where a tall plate looks out of place, and any spot where you would rather not see screw heads. The square footprint also makes it a good cover-up when an old button left paint lines or extra holes on the casing.

If you are adding a doorbell from scratch, pair it with a 16V transformer like the DT-1610A and a mechanical chime such as the Craftmade CH1000, and browse the rest of our wired doorbells.

The Lee Electric BC264LC is a square chrome lighted button with nothing on its face but the button. Order it here with the bracket and mounting screws included.

Q&A

Questions & Answers

Answers from our team for BC264LC Lee Electric Square Chrome Lighted Doorbell Button.

How do I know if a wired push button will fit?

Check the mounting style, outside dimensions, and screw-hole spacing. Surface-mount buttons sit on the wall, while recessed or flush buttons need an opening that matches the button body.

Answered for Wired Buttons

Can I replace only the wired doorbell button?

Yes, if the chime and transformer still work. A wired push button is usually a separate low-voltage switch, so you can replace a worn or dated button without replacing the entire doorbell system.

Answered for Wired Buttons

Why does my lighted wired button stay on?

Most lighted wired buttons use a small lamp or LED that stays lit so the button is visible at night. If the chime buzzes, hums, or does not ring correctly, check transformer and chime compatibility.

Answered for Wired Buttons

Can two apartments share one doorbell button?

They can, but then both chimes ring for every visitor, or one chime rings and the other unit never hears the door. The better setup is one button per unit on a single plate, such as the BC203 or BC268, with each button wired to its own chime. Visitors press the button next to the name they want.

Answered for Wired Buttons

Do I need a separate transformer for each unit?

No. One doorbell transformer can run two or three mechanical chimes as long as its VA rating covers them. A 16V 10VA transformer is marginal for two chimes; a 15VA or 30VA unit gives headroom. If each unit already has its own transformer, keep them: each button on the station is an independent switch and simply goes in series with its own unit's circuit.

Answered for Wired Buttons

Which multi-door button works with an electronic chime?

The unlighted ones. The BC203 and BC208 have plain contacts with no lamp, so they work with mechanical and electronic chimes alike. Lighted buttons pass a small current through the chime all the time to run the lamp, which most electronic chimes do not tolerate, so use the lighted BC268 only with mechanical chimes.

Answered for Wired Buttons

Where do the name cards go?

Each multi-door station has a pocket or window under each button. On the BC203 and BC208 the pocket is an open metal slot that takes a strip of card stock or a printed label, and it covers the mounting screw head. On the BC268 the window is a clear lens with a white card behind it, held by a snap-in carrier on the back. Name cards are not printed for you; most people use a label maker or a printed strip.
