Is there a seperate back plate that goes on the wall to mount the chime cover on?
The actual chime mechanism, the guts of the chime so to speak, mounts directly to wall, and the cover fits over it. The chime mechanism is a smaller, black box that contacts the doorbell strike plate, the plunger that strikes the plate, and were the wires are connected. The cover simply hangs over it.
