SS155 Strobe Receiver FAQ: Brightness, 58 Flash Colors & WC180-SS Specs

The SS155 plug-in strobe receiver combines an audible doorbell melody with a flashing visual alert. It is the receiver included in the WC180-SS wireless doorbell kit. This guide explains its estimated brightness, the flash color for all 58 melodies, and the system’s key specifications.

How many lumens does the SS155 strobe produce?

The supplier estimates total light output at approximately 6–90 lumens, depending on the emitted color and the LEDs’ light distribution. The receiver contains four RGB LEDs.

This range is a supplier estimate, not a measured lumen rating for the assembled SS155 receiver. The supplier has not provided a separate lumen measurement for each melody or flash color.

What do the LED brightness specifications mean?

The supplied LED data sheet lists these typical luminous-intensity values at 20 mA and an ambient temperature of 25°C:

  • Red: 1,800 millicandela (mcd)
  • Green: 3,600 mcd
  • Blue: 1,800 mcd

It also lists a typical 120° LED viewing angle. These specifications describe the LED components; they do not establish the finished receiver’s measured output or viewing angle.

Millicandela measures light intensity in a particular direction. Lumens measures total light output. Converting between them requires information about how the light spreads, so the mcd values cannot be used directly as the receiver’s lumen rating. Learn more about candela and lumens from NIST.

Does the doorbell melody determine the strobe color?

Yes. The supplier’s melody-to-color table assigns an RGB flash color to each of the 58 numbered melodies. For example, melody 1 flashes white, using RGB (255, 255, 255), while melody 2 flashes red, using RGB (255, 0, 0).

The receiver produces 15 flashes per activation. Its flash color follows the selected melody. RGB values specify the red, green, and blue color settings; they are not brightness or lumen measurements.

What color does each SS155 melody flash?

Use the numbered guide below to find the flash color associated with your melody selection. Each entry includes a readable color name and the exact RGB values from the supplier’s table.

About the color names: The supplier provides the names for melodies 1–8. Names for melodies 9–58 are approximate descriptions added to help you compare the colors. Actual LED appearance can vary with room lighting and viewing conditions; use the RGB values as the precise reference.
